A special message from the Executive Director and Board President
On behalf of the arboretum’s staff and Board of Trustees, we want to thank you for your support, patience, and understanding over the last several months. Our mission is to share Tyler’s heritage, landscapes, and collections. We firmly believe in the power of Nature to nourish our bodies and soothe our souls, and it has been heartbreaking to have to close our gates to you.
The Covid19 shutdown has been and continues to be devastating for Tyler financially, as it is for many other nonprofit and for-profit businesses in our community. In the absence of specific guidance for public gardens and arboreta, we and our sister institutions in the Greater Philadelphia region have worked together to try to navigate the crisis and find new, safe ways to connect with our members and the general public.
Thanks to your cooperation, our limited reopening to members has been a success. As our region enters the “green” phase of Pennsylvania’s Covid19 response, we will eliminate the timed-ticket system and open the arboretum to all on June 27th. We look forward to reopening our trails (beyond the deer exclusion fence) on July 3rd, once much-needed maintenance work is complete. With our partners in the local business community, we are working on plans for low-key, socially-distanced events and other ways to help you enjoy summer at Tyler.
As you know, even in the green phase, Covid19 is still with us. We will continue with measures intended to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus, including frequent cleaning of restrooms, limiting the number of vehicles in our parking lot, and – at least for the time being – keeping the treehouses closed. We ask that you please wear a face mask as you enter the arboretum, go into one of our buildings to use the restroom, and in any other situations where you cannot maintain distance from others. Find out What to Expect on your visit.
We thank you for sticking with us during this unprecedented, challenging period, and we look forward to welcoming you to Tyler very soon. Please reach out to us with your questions, concerns, or bright ideas!
With gratitude,
Mandy Santiago Heather Saunders
