Do you have a passion for the natural world and want to share it with Tyler visitors? Do your family and friends compliment you on your knowledge of trees, pond life, birds, the climate, or how you always know where to find information? If so, this free information session was designed for you.

People love our tours, and we need folks to help guide people through nature. Tyler Arboretum is expanding our Docent team! Be the person who brings landscapes, ecosystems, historic and Champion trees to life and helps people fall in love with Tyler. If you are happiest being in front of people of all ages, sharing the wonders of nature…we need you, and nature needs you!

Training begins on Thursday, March 31, 10 am to noon and will run for eight weeks, every Thursday. Training will be a hybrid of cyber and on-site sessions to cover Tyler areas. Subjects covered are Tyler’s history, collections, gardens, interacting with diverse audiences, and more. A general knowledge level is what we are seeking. You can develop a subject of interest once you master the basics.

Docents are expected to tour Thursdays through Sundays, April to the end of October. On average, you can expect to lead three to four one-hour tours per month, with some months and days busier than others (April/May, Sept/Oct). If you cannot commit to this, we ask that you sit out and join us another year.

To find out more, sign up for this free Information Zoom session. We will go over the training schedule, a day as a Docent, and answer your questions. Current docents will be available to share their stories. Space is limited. Find out if this is right for you, and bring a friend, as learning is always more fun with a friend!

REGISTER HERE for the information session on March 24 at 7pm.  The Zoom link will be emailed to you the day before the event.

Please note: If you already know that you would like to sign up for the Docent training and don’t need more information, please sign up here for the actual training sessions beginning on March 31 at 10 am.
