Special Events

Throughout the year, Tyler Arboretum hosts a range of special events, many of which are essential fundraisers that support Tyler’s mission, programs, activities, and classes.

Over the years, many of our special events have become family favorites, with second and third generations of the same families returning year after year to enjoy the fun and to support Tyler as an essential resource in the local community. We’re thrilled and delighted that so many people think so much of our events that they return and support us.

Because of scheduling changes, the exact dates and times for our seasonal and annual programs will vary from year to year. Please check the calendar page for details.

Late February: Pancake Breakfast and Maple Sugaring

Our ever popular annual celebration of all things maple syrup-related, and, of course, pancakes! Take a stroll through our maple sugaring stations and discover how the tasty topping we all know and love gets turned from sap into syrup. Then satisfy your appetite with our famous all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast. Fun and food for all the family. Bring a group! A rain or shine event, our annual Pancake Breakfast includes a snow date in early March in the event of severe weather. Admission fees vary from year to year. Tickets are available at the door on the day. Online ticket sales usually begin in mid- February.

Early May: Annual Plant Sale

Spring really wouldn’t be spring without Tyler’s annual Plant Sale, which usually happens over the course of the first weekend in May. Preparations for the Plant Sale begin the previous fall, with each year’s sale having its own Tyler-related theme.

The Plant Sale takes place outdoors and is a rain or shine event. Visitors will find garden experts on hand to offer advice on plant selection, planting and care tips, and the best kinds of companion plants. The Plant Sale’s large selection of plants offers something to suit all pockets and tastes: from trees, shrubs, and perennials; to annuals, herbs, and vegetables.

The Plant Sale usually includes a member preview day on Friday between 11am and 7pm. You must be a member of Tyler to shop for plants on this day. The rest of the weekend the Plant Sale is open to the general public between 9am and 3pm. Admission to the Plant Sale is free. The Arboretum is open on the weekends until 6pm.

Mid-June to mid-September: Ride, Roll, and Stroll

MEMBERS ONLY. This ever popular members-only event invites our friends and followers to enjoy the Arboretum’s paved paths with their bicycles, scooters, skates, and rollerblades. These events vary by year and are weather dependent. There may even be the chance for a free ice cream treat at the end of the evening, thanks to one of our generous sponsors.

Mid-June: Tyler at Twilight

Tyler at Twilight has become one of Delaware County’s top society events of the summer. This tented, catered, charity auction features live and silent auction items, two full bars, and a stunning range of delicious food from a range of local restaurants.

Tyler at Twilight supports Tyler’s mission as an example of outstanding stewardship of natural lands, and as a center of excellence in environmental education. With a lively and personable MC and auctioneer, this evening of fine food, great company, and a range of irresistible auction items under a huge tent on Tyler’s Painter lawn is sure to make your summer memorable. Proceeds support Tyler Arboretum’s educational programs and landscape maintenance initiatives. Visit: tylerattwilight.org to buy your tickets, and be sure to charge your phone and bring it to get in on the fun of mobile bidding.

Late June: Fairies & Wizards

Let there be magic! Join us in the wonderful land of fairy tales and nature, where all is mystical, magical, and memorable. Become a dragon, make a fairy wand, plant a magic bean, and enjoy opportunities to take part in imaginative play. Our Fairies & Wizards event includes crafts, storytelling, and live entertainment. Free with general admission.

Late August: Bugs & Butterflies

Our annual celebration of butterflies and bugs teaches visitors of all ages about the importance of monarch butterflies and their magnificent migration. This event offers crafts and activities, monarch tagging demonstrations, and regularly includes live invertebrates from our friends at the various regional science centers, as well as chances to get up close and personal with a real beehive. Free with general admission.

Mid-to late-October: Pumpkin Days

Celebrate fall with two days of family fun! Make your own scarecrow, or take a hayride through Tyler’s fall colors. With crafts, games, face painting, a moon bounce, an inflatable obstacle course, family photo ops galore, and of course, PUMPKINS, there’s something for everyone at Pumpkin Days.

No pre-registration required. FREE admission for members, compliments of our sponsors. This event includes free parking at Penn State Brandywine with a shuttle service to and from the Arboretum. For an additional fee we offer VIP parking at Tyler via advance registration only.
