Cotinus ‘Grace’

Description

Cotinus x ‘Grace’ is a hybrid between the American Smoketree, Cotinus obovatus and Cotinus coggygria. It is grown for its enormous flower clusters, 14″ x 12″, of smoky,panicles of silky hairs. Spring flowers emerge light pinky-red developing to dark red. Autumn color includes red, orange and gold. It has an open mounded habit.

This cross by Peter Dummer of Hellier Nurseries received an Award of Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1983.
Use in the Shrub border, or as a focal point. It may be cut to the ground in late winter to encourage vigorous colorful shoot growth.

May be grown in a wide range of soils with average fertility. It is disease free and drought tolerant. Prefers well drained loam.
