Tyler Arboretum, a 650-acre public garden in Media, Pennsylvania, is pleased to announce Mike Skuja as its new Executive Director. Skuja, an ecologist and experienced environmental leader, assumed his role on May 22, 2023.
“Tyler is 650 acres of woodlands, meadows, and streams. But when I look at Tyler, I also see 650 acres of community. And each acre holds a different opportunity for public engagement, education, and stewardship,” said Mike. “I’m excited to lead Tyler Arboretum and continue its legacy of connecting people to nature. I believe that the more we understand and appreciate the natural world, the more we’ll be inspired to protect it for future generations.”
Skuja brings nearly 25 years of experience in environmental work, including serving as the Executive Director of Tualatin Riverkeepers and a manager within Pew Charitable Trusts’ environment portfolio. He has worked on diverse conservation initiatives, from developing a watershed jobs training program to building bridges between conservationists and the agricultural community through river restoration.
At Tyler, Mike will focus on building community partnerships and expanding public engagement opportunities, while also leading the organization’s efforts to address climate change and strengthen its resilience.
Tyler Arboretum is thrilled to welcome Mike Skuja as its new Executive Director and looks forward to working with him to implement our new strategic plan and continuing to connect people to nature.
