The mountain laurels are blooming in a variety of colors around the Arboretum! These resilient and adaptable plants are native to eastern North America and are valued for their ability to attract pollinators, such as bees and butterflies. You can find them in our Native Woodland Walk or by the Barn. Both the bloomed flowers and bud clusters are unique and provide interest in the garden.

Fantastic Fennel! This beautiful bronze fennel is stealing the show down in Lucille’s Garden, where it grows abundantly in our Pollinator Pockets! Fennel is beloved by pollinators and beneficial insects alike, so we’re growing it to invite these welcome guests to the party here in the vegetable garden.

This fantastic herb is also a great addition to the dinner plate. You can use bronze fennel as a garnish for salads or meats, as an addition to cold dishes like chicken salad, or even steamed as a bed for fish or pork. You can also harvest the seeds to add to biscotti or shortbread cookies. The complex, anise flavor adds a rich and unique layer to beloved recipe staples. What’s your favorite fennel recipe?
