Description
Sweetfern is a native shrub with slender, often erect branches developing a broad, flat-topped to rounded outline as it spreads and colonizes. Leaves are dark green, almost lustrous and very narrow, looking somewhat like a fern frond. Foliage and stems are aromatic.
Sweetfern does best in peaty, sandy, sterile acid soils; it has the ability to fix its own nitrogen, explaining the adaptability to poor infertile soils.
An excellent choice for the naturalistic landscape.
