Goodyera pubescens is an evergreen herbaceous perennial in the orchid family that is native to dry to mesic woodlands, bluffs, wooded slopes, and wooded ravines.
Attractive green leaves are veined with light striping. In late summer, tall spikes of small whitish flowers rise up from the rosette of striking foliage. Flowers are followed by fruits (small erect ovoid capsules). Leaves sometimes persist all year.
This unusual wildflower is native throughout most of the eastern U.S., in woodland areas. Easily grown in organically rich, medium moisture, well-drained soils in part shade to full shade. Best with a sun-dappled part shade.
