This tall clump-forming perennial features candelabra-like inflorescences of erect, slender, 2-6″ pencil-like spikes of tiny, tubular, purplish-blue flowers. The flowers open gradually from bottom to top over a long period from July-September.
It has an upright habit making it useful for the back of the border or in naturalized meadows.
Native plant that commonly occurs in wet meadows, wet river bottomlands, stream banks. It is easily grown in average, medium to wet soils in full sun.
