Press Release

Dear Tyler Supporter,

I hope that you and your loved ones continue to remain safe and in good health. The beautiful spring weather has prompted a slew of calls and emails inquiring if Tyler is planning to re-open.

As of today, 24 PA counties have received the all-clear to gradually re-open their businesses. Sadly, Delaware County was not selected due to the number of suspected and confirmed COVID-19 cases in our area. As a result, Tyler remains closed to the public at this time.

In March, Tyler received more than 800 responses to our survey, and 90% of respondents were in favor of following social distancing guidelines in the event Tyler were to re-open. In April, Tyler combed through the survey responses and developed a comprehensive plan that would allow us to modify our operations, while adhering to CDC and PA Department of Health safety protocols. With travel restrictions still in place for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, I would love nothing more than to offer our members and supporters the chance to enjoy Tyler as part of their staycation option!

I also believe the decision to exclude public gardens from the passive recreation waiver that state parks — and now golf courses — are permitted to operate under is an unfortunate oversight given the numerous physical and mental health benefits families enjoy when they have fitness and recreation opportunities outdoors. So, I am asking for your assistance. If you have a moment and reside in PA, I encourage you to contact the Governor’s office and your state legislator to share your feedback.

In the meantime, we invite you to continue exploring our new series of videos, blogs, and podcasts to help you stay connected – whether you are a Citizen Scientist, home gardener or avid nature fan.  If you have not done so already, we encourage you to join us on FacebookInstagram and YouTube to access your favorite resources and videos year-round.

On behalf of Tyler’s staff, volunteers and Board of Trustees, I thank you for your continued support, patience, understanding and philanthropic leadership.

Sincerely,

Mandy Santiago
Executive Director
