#TYLEREARTHDAY
April 22, 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. Since 1970, Earth Day has increased awareness of the planet we live on, pollution, climate change, endangered species, and many other environmental issues. Our goal is to engage our community of outdoor enthusiasts, lover of nature and knowledge seekers in celebrating this wonderful achievement during this time of social distancing. Gather your family and your cyber friends, tune in to the videos, blogs, social groups and podcasts that we have created and curated for you.
Activities for the Entire Family:
- Citizen Science – Get involved, share, contribute
- Celebrate Earth Day with A Good Book for Young Readers
Conservation Minded:
- Bluebird Box Program – 50 years of supporting our friends
- Listen to This! Earth Day podcast discussion, Wednesday April 22. Join us for this unique discussion of Earth Day over the years, and in the future! Produced and supported by Penn State Brandywine and hosted by Dr. Laura Guertin, Professor of Earth Sciences. Registration required.
- Ecological Gardening: Our gardens are oasis not only for ourselves but for many birds, insects and amphibians. Providing everyone food and shelter while leaving a small carbon foot print can be accomplished if you make some basic adjustments. Join Bess Trout, Tyler Gardener as she shows you how to use a rain barrel, create a pollinator garden and finally, have a productive compost bin. This is your chance to live chat with a horticulturist with many years of experience in sustainable gardening. This is a free zoom program and pre-registration is required. The Zoom URL code will be emailed to you on Saturday, April 25 at 6pm. Register here.
